WhatsApp messages and emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor and firm.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been notified that WhatsApp messages and emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor and a genuine firm (see details below).  

The communications were sent purporting to assist with a legal matter and eliciting funds from members of the public by providing recipients with bank details for transferring funds.

The emails were sent from the email address noted as 'mail.tkdsolicitors@protonmail.com', and the WhatsApp messages were sent from the contact number of '+44 7507 443 806'.

The SRA has further seen false letters of authority misusing the genuine firm's address, as well as providing the contact number of '+44 7507 443 806' and email address of 'mail.tkdsolicitors@protonmail.com'

Any business or transactions through the above contact details are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called TKD Solicitors (SRA number 348963). The genuine firm uses the email domain '@tkdsolicitors.com' and telephone number '0207 2587 955'. Their office address is Capital House, 4th Floor, 25 Chapel Street, London, NW1 5DH

The firm has confirmed they have no connection to the above alert.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Adnan Al-Sabah (SRA number 291286) who is currently employed by TKD Solicitors. The genuine solicitor has confirmed that they have no connection to the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
