Warning: Letter from 'Robert Lindsay' misusing the name and details of Blake-Turner LLP

A letter has been sent falsely claiming to be from 'Robert Lindsay' misusing the name and details of Blake-Turner LLP in relation to a Student Loan Company matter.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a letter that has been sent to the Student Loan Company misusing the name and details of a genuine firm for solicitors (see below).

The letter is purported to be from 'Robert Lindsay' claiming to be a solicitor at Blake-Turner LLP.

The letter also provides the address 65 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 4BE and an email address 'robert.lindsay@blaketurner.co.uk'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual solicitor named 'Robert Lindsay'.

Any business or transaction through the above document is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Blake-Turner LLP (SRA ID 629500). The genuine firm uses the genuine email domain @blaketurner.com. Its head office is 65 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 4BE and contact number is 020 7480 6655.

The genuine firm of Blake-Turner LLP has confirmed that it does not have any connection with the letter referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
