A document and letter have been sent misusing the name of 'Yasin & Co Ltd'.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that a document and letter has been provided to an energy company misusing the name, address and SRA ID of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The letter seen by the SRA falsely purports to have been written by a genuine solicitor (see below).
The document seen by the SRA is titled 'Termination Agreement'.
The contact number provided is '07307352733', and the email address is 'admin@yasinandcosolicitors.co.uk'.
Any business or transaction through the email address 'admin@yasinandcosolicitors.co.uk' or telephone number '07307352733' is not authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Yasin & Co Solicitors Ltd. Its address is 52 Upton Lane, London, E7 9LN. The firm’s SRA ID is 8008315. Emails from the genuine firm use the domain '@yasinandco.com'.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Zafar Yasin who is a solicitor at Yasin & Co Solicitors Ltd.
The genuine firm of Yasin & Co Solicitors Ltd have confirmed neither it, nor Zafar Yasin have any connection to the letter and document referred to above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
